The History of Pennsylvania Volunteers, 1861 to 1865 by Samuel Bates (Harrisburg, 1870) is a very early history and an excellent resource of information but has been found to have several errors including misspelled names, incomplete individual records, incorrect death dates, and/or soldiers missing from the unit list. Be sure to verify your soldier’s name and rank before searching and utilize other sources, including the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System, sponsored by the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
