McDowell 1999

Six hardy souls of the 53rd PA trekked down to Virginia to take part in the reenactment of Stonewall Jackson's first decisive victory of the 1862 Valley Campaign. We set up camp in the beautiful valley on Friday. The official battle scenario took place on Saturday, followed by a 2 1/2 mile march to a new bivouac that evening. We posted a Grand Guard that night, and though the Rebs never challenged our pickets, they hit us full force the next morning, driving us back into town. It was a great weekend and one not to forget! The Wild Bunch - Pvt. Fink, Pvt. Goodell, Sgt. Fasnacht, Pvt. Schleicher and Cpl. Peterson

Enjoying the life of a Private, "Pap" enjoys a fine tree and cigar.
Cpl. Peterson tries in vain to catch a fish. He does, however, successfully forage 3 chickens!
The lamb lies down.... Sgt. Fasnacht finds a new pard for the evening.
Company C of the 3rd West Virginia marches 2 1/2 miles to a new camp.
Cpl. Kunkle, after nearly shooting a horse on picket duty the night before, covers the retreat of the company as it marches out from camp.
The Federals cross the vital ford on the Bull Pasture Creek, in advance of the oncoming Confederates.
